What Banks in Vietnam Had the Most Bad Loans in 2019?

Based on a comparison of 15 banks in Vietnam in 2019, Vietnam Prosperity Bank had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Sacombank and SHB Bank.

Vietnam Prosperity Bank's non-performing loans reached 3.42% of total loans at the end of 2019, down from 3.50% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 3.50% in 2018 and an all time low of 1.82% in 2011.

Provision coverage amounted to 1.94% at the end of 2019, down from 2.13% compared to a year earlier.

Comparing Vietnam Prosperity Bank with its closest peers, Sacombank operated at the end of 2019 with NPL ratio of 1.94% and provision coverage of 69.3%, SHB Bank with 1.83% and 64.4% and BIDV had 1.74% of bad loans covered with 74.2% by provisions at the end of 2019.
