Based on a comparison of 34 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in ginger production with 655,000 tonnes followed by China and Nepal. On the other end of the scale was Tanzania with 35.0 tonnes, Madagascar with 52.0 tonnes and Ghana with 93.0 tonnes.
Total ginger production reached 2,185,068 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.04 % more than in the previous year and 43.9 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total ginger production reached an all time high of 2,335,062 tonnes in 2011 and an all time low of 60,360 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 7.01 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 30.0 % of ginger production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 61.7 % share while the ten largest countries some 94.2 % in 2014.
