Based on a comparison of 33 countries in 2018, India ranked the highest in ginger production with 893,242 tonnes followed by China and Nigeria. On the other end of the scale was Trinidad and Tobago with 8.00 tonnes, Kenya with 15.0 tonnes and Pakistan with 20.0 tonnes.
Total ginger production reached 2,785,574 tonnes in 2018 in the World according to Faostat. This is 5.47 % less than in the previous year and 41.7 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total ginger production reached an all time high of 3,185,460 tonnes in 2016 and an all time low of 60,360 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 6.95 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 32.1 % of ginger production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 63.6 % share while the ten largest countries some 95.2 % in 2018.
