Based on a comparison of 48 countries in 2018, China ranked the highest in hardboard production with 3,421,000 '000 cbm followed by Germany and Russia. On the other end of the scale was Guatemala with 44.0 '000 cbm, Ethiopia with 200 '000 cbm and Bosnia and Herzegovina with 1,000 '000 cbm.

Total hardboard production reached 8,898,305 '000 cbm in 2018 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.45 % less than in the previous year and 12.0 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, total hardboard production reached an all time high of 14,231,471 '000 cbm in 2013 and an all time low of 6,156,133 '000 cbm in 2001. The average annual growth amounted to 1.05 % since 1995.
