Based on a comparison of 31 countries in 2014, Turkey ranked the highest in hazelnut production with 450,000 tonnes followed by Italy and Georgia. On the other end of the scale was Denmark with 5.00 tonnes, Ukraine with 10.0 tonnes and Cyprus with 41.0 tonnes.

Total hazelnut production reached 828,996 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 3.58 % less than in the previous year and 25.8 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, total hazelnut production reached an all time high of 1,069,175 tonnes in 2008 and an all time low of 170,162 tonnes in 1965. The average annual growth amounted to 2.90 % since 1961.

The top ranked country, Turkey, accounted for 54.3 % of hazelnut production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 67.9 % share while the ten largest countries some 84.9 % in 2014.
