Based on a comparison of 31 countries in 2018, Turkey ranked the highest in hazelnut production with 515,000 tonnes followed by Italy and Azerbaijan. On the other end of the scale was Denmark with 4.00 tonnes, Ukraine with 20.0 tonnes and Cyprus with 23.0 tonnes.

Total hazelnut production reached 863,888 tonnes in 2018 in the World according to Faostat. This is 15.4 % less than in the previous year and -23.6 % less than 10 years ago.

Historically, total hazelnut production reached an all time high of 1,068,186 tonnes in 2008 and an all time low of 170,162 tonnes in 1965. The average annual growth amounted to 2.77 % since 1961.

The top ranked country, Turkey, accounted for 59.6 % of hazelnut production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 81.0 % share while the ten largest countries some 96.7 % in 2018.
