Based on a comparison of 87 countries in 2018, India ranked the highest in millet production with 11,640 kt followed by Niger and Sudan. On the other end of the scale was Maldives with 0.004 kt, Jordan with 0.010 kt and Moldova with 0.012 kt.

Total millet production reached 31,019 kt in 2018 in the World according to Faostat. This is 9.1 % more than in the previous year and -10.9 % less than 10 years ago.

Historically, total millet production reached an all time high of 34,820 kt in 2003 and an all time low of 23,308 kt in 1965. The average annual growth amounted to 0.330 % since 1961.
