Based on a comparison of 88 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in millet production with 11,420 kt followed by Niger and China. On the other end of the scale was Maldives with 0.005 kt, Moldova with 0.010 kt and Jordan with 0.027 kt.
Total millet production reached 26,956 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 10.8 % less than in the previous year and -9.91 % less than 10 years ago.
Historically, total millet production reached an all time high of 34,814 kt in 2003 and an all time low of 23,308 kt in 1965. The average annual growth amounted to 0.089 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 42.4 % of millet production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 63.4 % share while the ten largest countries some 90.9 % in 2014.
