Based on a comparison of 42 countries in 2014, Indonesia ranked the highest in palm oil production with 29,278 kt followed by Malaysia and Thailand. On the other end of the scale was Suriname with 0.203 kt, Central African Republic with 0.400 kt and Gambia with 3.35 kt.

Total palm oil production reached 50,939 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 6.77 % less than in the previous year and 41.0 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, total palm oil production reached an all time high of 54,385 kt in 2013 and an all time low of 1,476 kt in 1962. The average annual growth amounted to 6.91 % since 1961.

The top ranked country, Indonesia, accounted for 57.5 % of palm oil production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 99.7 % share while the ten largest countries some 108 % in 2014.
