Based on a comparison of 22 countries in 2014, Iran ranked the highest in pistachio production with 415,531 tonnes followed by USA and Turkey. On the other end of the scale was Mauritius with 5.00 tonnes, Azerbaijan with 8.00 tonnes and Cyprus with 23.0 tonnes.
Total pistachio production reached 980,833 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 6.52 % more than in the previous year and 54.7 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total pistachio production reached an all time high of 1,024,149 tonnes in 2012 and an all time low of 19,440 tonnes in 1962. The average annual growth amounted to 7.55 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Iran, accounted for 42.4 % of pistachio production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 74.3 % share while the ten largest countries some 86.8 % in 2014.
