Based on a comparison of 60 countries in 2014, Tanzania ranked the highest in sesame oil production with 544,293 tonnes followed by Myanmar and China. On the other end of the scale was Cyprus with 12.0 tonnes, El Salvador with 45.0 tonnes and Ukraine with 45.0 tonnes.
Total sesame oil production reached 1,133,084 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.27 % more than in the previous year and 16.5 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total sesame oil production reached an all time high of 1,145,173 tonnes in 2012 and an all time low of 399,119 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 1.99 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Tanzania, accounted for 48.0 % of sesame oil production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 96.8 % share while the ten largest countries some 125 % in 2014.
