Based on a comparison of 38 countries in 2014, Greece ranked the highest in production of cheese (sheeps' milk with 125,000 tonnes followed by China and Spain. On the other end of the scale was Poland with 44.0 tonnes, Czech Republic with 52.0 tonnes and Hungary with 86.0 tonnes.

Total production of cheese (sheeps' milk reached 674,601 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.34 % more than in the previous year and 0.517 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, total production of cheese (sheeps' milk reached an all time high of 691,312 tonnes in 2007 and an all time low of 388,887 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 1.04 % since 1961.
