Based on a comparison of 36 countries in 2014, Ethiopia ranked the highest in vetch production with 251,439 tonnes followed by Russia and Mexico. On the other end of the scale was Hungary with 33.0 tonnes, Latvia with 39.0 tonnes and Cyprus with 52.0 tonnes.
Total vetch production reached 939,637 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 21.8 % more than in the previous year and -35.8 % less than 10 years ago.
Historically, total vetch production reached an all time high of 2,315,556 tonnes in 1964 and an all time low of 734,566 tonnes in 2013. The average annual growth amounted to -1.29 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Ethiopia, accounted for 26.8 % of vetch production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 52.7 % share while the ten largest countries some 89.3 % in 2014.
