Based on a comparison of 44 countries in 2014, Nigeria ranked the highest in yam production with 45,004 kt followed by Ghana and Ivory Coast. On the other end of the scale was Cayman Islands with 0.026 kt, Trinidad and Tobago with 0.103 kt and Belize with 0.104 kt.

Total yam production reached 53,485 kt in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 17.9 % less than in the previous year and 12.2 % more than 10 years ago.
