Based on a comparison of 158 countries in 2017, Albania ranked the highest in expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports with 24.1% followed by Kuwait and Armenia. On the other end of the scale was Sudan with 0.297%, Guinea with 0.373% and Dem. Republic of the Congo with 0.459%.

Average expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports reached 6.49% in 2017 in the World according to Eurostat. This is 3.96 % less than in the previous year and 13.5 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, average expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports reached an all time high of 7.52% in 1996 and an all time low of 5.09% in 2011. The average annual growth amounted to -0.506 % since 1995.
