Based on a comparison of 155 countries in 2015, Albania ranked the highest in expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports with 25.9% followed by Kuwait and Armenia. On the other end of the scale was Dem. Republic of the Congo with 0.516%, South Sudan with 0.705% and Tajikistan with 0.753%.

Average expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports reached 6.67% in 2015 in the World according to Eurostat. This is 8.78 % more than in the previous year and 8.79 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, average expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports reached an all time high of 7.50% in 1996 and an all time low of 5.05% in 2011. The average annual growth amounted to -0.405 % since 1995.
