Based on a comparison of 162 countries in 2018, Albania ranked the highest in expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports with 25.5% followed by Armenia and Kuwait. On the other end of the scale was Sudan with 0.158%, Djibouti with 0.532% and Liberia with 0.618%.

Average expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports reached 6.41% in 2018 in the World according to Eurostat. This is 2.44 % less than in the previous year and 18.4 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, average expenditure of international tourism as a percentage of total imports reached an all time high of 7.52% in 1996 and an all time low of 5.06% in 2011. The average annual growth amounted to -0.527 % since 1995.
