American basketball star LeBron James has signed a lifetime deal with the world's biggest sporting goods firm, Nike.

James, a forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers, came to prominence in 2003, having joined the professional league straight out of high school. He has two National Basketball Association championships under his belt from his time with the Miami Heat, which he left to return to the Cavaliers in 2014.

No financial terms of the deal have been released yet. However, early reports suggest the sum could be more than $500 mil. James’s two-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers is already reportedly worth $47 mil.

According to Forbes, however, Mr. James will still be a few million behind "Mr. Money" - boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. who topped the list of best-paid athletes in the world for the second straight year. Mayweather is expected to have earned $300 mil in 2015, just $13 mil less than the next three athletes combined.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Roger Federer finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively in the rankings that include both earnings and endorsements. For the sixth straight year, tennis star Maria Sharapova ($29.7 mil) ranks as the highest-paid female athlete, finishing 26th overall.
