Based on a comparison of 10 banks among UniCredit New Europe in 2017, UniCredit Bank Slovenia had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Zagrebacka Banka and UniCredit Bank Hungary.

UniCredit Bank Slovenia's non-performing loans reached 23.1% of total loans at the end of 2017, up from 16.5% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 23.1% in 2017 and an all time low of 0.922% in 2006.

Provision coverage amounted to 11.4% at the end of 2017, down from 14.9% compared to a year earlier.

Comparing UniCredit Bank Slovenia with its closest peers, Zagrebacka Banka operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 11.4% and provision coverage of 73.4%, UniCredit Bank Hungary with 10.2% and 36.6% and UniCredit Tiriac Bank had 9.45% of bad loans covered with 69.3% by provisions at the end of 2017.
