Bank assets as a share of GDP reached 320 % in 2017 in China, according to the National Central Bank. This is 3.82 % more than in the previous year.
Historically, bank assets as a share of GDP in China reached an all time high of 320 % in 2017 and an all time low of 194 % in 2004. When compared to China's main peers, bank assets as a share of GDP in India amounted to 88.6 %, 202 % in Japan, 84.1 % in Russia and 91.1 % in USA in 2017.
China has been ranked 7th within the group of 113 countries we follow in terms of bank assets as a share of GDP, 13 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
