Current account balance as a share of GDP reached 7.68 % in 2019 in Botswana, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 11.8 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, current account balance as a share of GDP in Botswana reached an all time high of 8.71 % in 2018 and an all time low of -0.283 % in 1981. When compared to Botswana's main peers, current account balance as a share of GDP in Namibia amounted to -7.64 %, -3.51 % in South Africa, -3.42 % in Zambia and -5.56 % in Zimbabwe in 2019.
Botswana has been ranked 17th within the group of 172 countries we follow in terms of current account balance as a share of GDP, 100 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
The current account is one of the two primary components of the balance of payments, the other being the capital account.
