Current account balance as a share of GDP reached 9.82 % in 2019 in Switzerland, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 3.60 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, current account balance as a share of GDP in Switzerland reached an all time high of 10.2 % in 2018 and an all time low of -0.002 % in 1980. When compared to Switzerland's main peers, current account balance as a share of GDP in Austria amounted to 1.78 %, -0.701 % in France, 7.86 % in Germany and 1.59 % in Italy in 2019.
Switzerland has been ranked 9th within the group of 172 countries we follow in terms of current account balance as a share of GDP, 10 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
The current account is one of the two primary components of the balance of payments, the other being the capital account.
