Foreign trade as a share of GDP reached 133 % in 2018 in Macedonia, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 4.04 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, foreign trade as a share of GDP in Macedonia reached an all time high of 139 % in 2019 and an all time low of 46.4 % in 1991. When compared to Macedonia's main peers, foreign trade as a share of GDP in Albania amounted to 76.9 %, 129 % in Bulgaria, 72.5 % in Greece and 82.0 % in Kosovo in 2018.
Macedonia has been ranked 23rd within the group of 163 countries we follow in terms of foreign trade as a share of GDP, 27 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
