Government expenditure as a share of GDP reached 28.0 % in 2019 in Afghanistan, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 3.24 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Afghanistan reached an all time high of 28.9 % in 2018 and an all time low of 6.94 % in 2002. When compared to Afghanistan's main peers, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Iran amounted to 17.0 %, 22.0 % in Pakistan, 29.5 % in Tajikistan and 13.6 % in Turkmenistan in 2019.
