Historically, government expenditure as a share of GDP in India reached an all time high of 29.4 % in 2003 and an all time low of 23.9 % in 1996. When compared to India's main peers, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Bangladesh amounted to 15.1 %, 34.0 % in China, 22.0 % in Pakistan and 20.8 % in Sri Lanka in 2019.
