Government expenditure as a share of GDP reached 20.2 % in 2019 in Kazakhstan, according to the National Statistical Office. This is 7.43 % more than in the previous year.
Historically, government expenditure as a share of GDP in Kazakhstan reached an all time high of 27.1 % in 2008 and an all time low of 18.8 % in 2018. When compared to Kazakhstan's main peers, government expenditure as a share of GDP in China amounted to 34.0 %, 34.2 % in Kyrgyzstan, 33.6 % in Russia and 28.2 % in Uzbekistan in 2019.
Kazakhstan has been ranked 140th within the group of 172 countries we follow in terms of government expenditure as a share of GDP, 23 places behind the position seen 10 years ago.
Government expenditure (or spending) includes all government consumption and investment but excludes transfer payments made by a state.
