Number of international tourist arrivals reached 28.7 mil in 2017 in Japan, according to Eurostat. This is 19.3 % more than in the previous year.
Historically, number of international tourist arrivals in Japan reached an all time high of 28.7 mil in 2017 and an all time low of 3.35 mil in 1995. When compared to Japan's main peers, number of international tourist arrivals in China amounted to 60.7 mil, 24.4 mil in Russia, 13.3 mil in South Korea and 76.9 mil in USA in 2017.
Japan has been ranked 14th within the group of 149 countries we follow in terms of number of international tourist arrivals, 15 places above the position seen 10 years ago.
The number of international tourists who travel to a country other than that in which they have their usual residence, but outside their usual environment, for a period not exceeding 12 months and whose main purpose in visiting is other than an activity remunerated from within the country visited.
