Number of international tourist arrivals reached 0.837 mil in 2017 in Malawi, according to Eurostat. This is 1.41 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, number of international tourist arrivals in Malawi reached an all time high of 0.849 mil in 2016 and an all time low of 0.192 mil in 1995. When compared to Malawi's main peers, number of international tourist arrivals in Mozambique amounted to 1.45 mil, 10.3 mil in South Africa, 1.28 mil in Tanzania and 1.08 mil in Zambia in 2017.
Malawi has been ranked 118th within the group of 149 countries we follow in terms of number of international tourist arrivals, 12 places behind the position seen 10 years ago.
The number of international tourists who travel to a country other than that in which they have their usual residence, but outside their usual environment, for a period not exceeding 12 months and whose main purpose in visiting is other than an activity remunerated from within the country visited.
