Historically, lignite coal production in Albania reached an all time high of 2,417 kt in 1989 and an all time low of 9.92 kt in 2011. When compared to Albania's main peers, lignite coal production in Greece amounted to 68,111 kt, 9,572 kt in Kosovo, 8,234 kt in Macedonia and 2,205 kt in Montenegro in 2012.
