Historically, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Lesotho reached an all time high of 161 % in 1982 and an all time low of 55.3 % in 1970. When compared to Lesotho's main peers, merchandise trade as a share of GDP in Botswana amounted to 64.6 %, 54.5 % in South Africa, 78.0 % in Swaziland and 33.5 % in Zimbabwe in 2017.
