Historically, number of maritime oil tankers in China reached an all time high of 11,702 vessels in 2011 and an all time low of 2,547 vessels in 1992. When compared to China's main peers, number of maritime oil tankers in India amounted to 8,907 vessels, 6,098 vessels in Japan, 2,006 vessels in Russia and 3,949 vessels in USA in 2011.
