Sales of passenger cars reached 145 thousand in 2020 in Portugal, according to ACEA. This is 35.0 % less than in the previous year.

Historically, sales of passenger cars in Portugal reached an all time high of 939 thousand in 1987 and an all time low of 77.3 thousand in 1979. When compared to Portugal's main peers, sales of passenger cars in France amounted to 1,650 thousand, 88.3 thousand in Ireland, 117 thousand in Morocco and 851 thousand in Spain in 2020.
