Total provisions as a share of non-performing loans reached 66.2 % in 2014 in Romania, according to the National Central Bank. This is 26.2 % less than in the previous year.
Historically, total provisions as a share of non-performing loans in Romania reached an all time high of 112 % in 2002 and an all time low of 6.12 % in 1994. When compared to Romania's main peers, total provisions as a share of non-performing loans in Bulgaria amounted to 49.4 %, 83.1 % in Hungary, 63.6 % in Moldova and 64.0 % in Ukraine in 2014.
Romania has been ranked 47th within the group of 124 countries we follow in terms of total provisions as a share of non-performing loans, 23 places behind the position seen 10 years ago.
The ratio shows the extent to which non-performing loans are already covered by provisions.
