What Banks in Slovakia Were the Largest in 2016?

Based on a comparison of 14 banks in Slovakia in 2016, Slovenska Sporitelna was the largest bank by assets, followed by VUB Banka and Tatra banka.

Slovenska Sporitelna assets reached EUR 14,825 mil, up 6.05% when compared to the last year. Historically, the bank’s assets reached an all time high of EUR 14,825 mil in 2016 and an all time low of EUR 3,591 mil in 1998.

Comparing Slovenska Sporitelna with its closest peers, VUB Banka assets amounted to EUR 14,037 mil, Tatra banka operated with EUR 11,373 mil assets and CSOB Slovakia had total assets of EUR 8,544 mil.

Total assets of the Slovak banking sector amounted to EUR 71.4 bil in 2016, up 3.30% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - Slovenska Sporitelna accounted for 20.8% of the sector’s assets in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 56.4% share while the five largest firms some 75.6% in 2016.
