Electricity production from natural gas sources rose 8.45% to 658,513 GWh in the European Union in 2017, according to World Bank / EIA.

Historically, electricity production from natural gas sources in the European Union reached an all time high of 790,678 GWh in 2008 and an all time low of 7,759 GWh in 1960. When compared to European Union's main peers, electricity production from natural gas sources in China amounted to 196,188 GWh, 401,450 GWh in Japan, 529,852 GWh in Russia and 1,368,671 GWh in USA in 2017.
