The three largest (or most active) banks in Hungary held 36% of total assets at the end of March 2014, according to the figures of the National Bank of Hungary. That is roughly the same as at the begining of 2005.
On the other hand, the competition in the retail banking has been on the rise. While the three largest banks held 55.8% of the market in January 2005, it was "only" 47.5% in March 2014. A similar trend is seen on the retail deposits side, where the three largest banks lost 12% of the market in the last nine years holding 38.9% now.
