Historically, neonatal mortality per 1,000 live births in Sri Lanka reached an all time high of 40.2 in 1960 and an all time low of 4.20 in 2019. When compared to Sri Lanka's main peers, neonatal mortality per 1,000 live births in India amounted to 21.4, 4.60 in Malaysia, 4.50 in Maldives and 22.9 in Myanmar in 2019.
Sri Lanka has been ranked 120th within the group of 172 countries we follow in terms of neonatal mortality per 1,000 live births, 6 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
