Historically, neonatal mortality per 1,000 live births in India reached an all time high of 85.0 in 1969 and an all time low of 21.4 in 2019. When compared to India's main peers, neonatal mortality per 1,000 live births in Bangladesh amounted to 18.5, 3.70 in China, 41.4 in Pakistan and 4.20 in Sri Lanka in 2019.
India has been ranked 41st within the group of 172 countries we follow in terms of neonatal mortality per 1,000 live births, 17 places below the position seen 10 years ago.
