Total coal consumption rose 16.0% to 128 kt in Iceland in 2015, according to the National Statistical Office.

Historically, total coal consumption in Iceland reached an all time high of 177 kt in 2007 and an all time low of 30.9 kt in 1980. When compared to Iceland's main peers, total coal consumption in Denmark amounted to 3,458 kt, 869 kt in Norway, 3,083 kt in Sweden and 41,195 kt in United Kingdom in 2015.
