Historically, total dependency ratio in East Timor reached an all time high of 87.5% in 2005 and an all time low of 68.3% in 2021. When compared to East Timor's main peers, total dependency ratio in Australia amounted to 52.8%, 42.1% in Indonesia, 39.8% in Malaysia and 57.1% in Papua New Guinea in 2022.
