Based on a comparison of 23 banks in Croatia, Privredna Banka Zagreb produced the highest net profit in 2017, followed by Zagrebacka Banka and Erste & Steiermarkische Bank.

Privredna Banka Zagreb made a net profit of HRK 1,331 mil, down 19.8% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of HRK 1,660 mil in 2016 and an all time low of HRK 28.0 mil in 1997. The average profit in the last five years amounted to HRK 1,032 mil.

The bank generated an average return on equity of 6.84% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 10.3% and a minimum of 2.48%.

Comparing Privredna Banka Zagreb with its closest peers, Zagrebacka Banka generated a net profit of HRK 1,042 mil with a ROE of 5.66% in 2017, Erste & Steiermarkische Bank netted HRK 534 mil (ROE of 6.60%) and Addiko Bank Croatia announced a net profit of HRK 230 mil giving a ROE of 8.44%.

The net profit of the Croatia’s banking sector amounted to HRK 3,652 mil in 2017, down 28.4% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, Privredna Banka Zagreb accounted for 36.4% of the sector’s net profit in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 79.6% share while the five largest firms some 91.0% in 2017.
