What Banks in Hungary Had the Most Bad Loans in 2017?

Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Hungary in 2017, FHB Bank had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Budapest Bank and OTP Group.

FHB Bank's non-performing loans reached 23.5% of total loans at the end of 2017, down from 26.8% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 26.8% in 2016 and an all time low of 0.278% in 2003.

Provision coverage amounted to 11.0% at the end of 2017, down from 14.7% compared to a year earlier.

Comparing FHB Bank with its closest peers, Budapest Bank operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 11.0% and provision coverage of 92.6%, OTP Group with 10.9% and 87.9% and CIB Bank had 10.8% of bad loans covered with 70.8% by provisions at the end of 2017.

Non-performing loans of the whole Hungary’s banking sector amounted to 3.74% of total loans in 2017, down from 4.59% when compared to the last year.
