Based on a comparison of 14 banks in Italy in 2018, Mediobanca operated with the highest net interest margin, followed by Banca Nazionale del Lavoro and BPER Banca.

Mediobanca's net interest margin amounted to 2.03% in 2018, up from 1.94% when compared to the previous year.

Historically, the bank’s net interest margin reached an all time high of 3.19% in 1991 and an all time low of 1.30% in 2009. The average margin in the last five years amounted to 1.82%.
