What Banks in Poland Had the Most Bad Loans in 2017?

Based on a comparison of 17 banks in Poland in 2017, Getin Noble Bank had the highest share of bad loans, followed by Bank Ochrony Srodowiska and Bank Pocztowy.

Getin Noble Bank's non-performing loans reached 15.8% of total loans at the end of 2017, up from 14.7% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the NPL ratio hit an all time high of 15.8% in 2017 and an all time low of 12.3% in 2011.

Provision coverage amounted to 11.9% at the end of 2017, up from 11.0% compared to a year earlier.

Comparing Getin Noble Bank with its closest peers, Bank Ochrony Srodowiska operated at the end of 2017 with NPL ratio of 11.9% and provision coverage of 40.6%, Bank Pocztowy with 11.8% and 63.9% and Alior Bank had 10.8% of bad loans covered with 57.5% by provisions at the end of 2017.

Non-performing loans of the whole Poland’s banking sector amounted to 3.74% of total loans in 2017, down from 4.59% when compared to the last year.
