Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania, Banca Transilvania produced the highest net profit in 2016, followed by Banca Commerciala Romana and BRD Groupe Societe Generale.

Banca Transilvania made a net profit of RON 1,272 mil, down 48.0% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of RON 2,446 mil in 2015 and an all time low of RON 4.15 mil in 1998. The average profit in the last five years amounted to RON 980 mil.

The bank generated an average return on equity of 21.7% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 48.7% and a minimum of 12.6%.

Comparing Banca Transilvania with its closest peers, Banca Commerciala Romana generated a net profit of RON 1,042 mil with a ROE of 16.4% in 2016, BRD Groupe Societe Generale netted RON 761 mil (ROE of 11.8%) and Raiffeisen Bank Romania announced a net profit of RON 449 mil giving a ROE of 13.9%.
