Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Romania, BRD Groupe Societe Generale produced the highest net profit in 2017, followed by Banca Transilvania and Banca Commerciala Romana.
BRD Groupe Societe Generale made a net profit of RON 1,415 mil, up 85.9% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of RON 1,573 mil in 2008 and an all time low of RON -388 mil in 2013. The average profit in the last five years amounted to RON 464 mil.
The bank generated an average return on equity of 6.78% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 20.2% and a minimum of -6.96%.
Comparing BRD Groupe Societe Generale with its closest peers, Banca Transilvania generated a net profit of RON 1,247 mil with a ROE of 18.8% in 2017, Banca Commerciala Romana netted RON 668 mil (ROE of 9.38%) and Raiffeisen Bank Romania announced a net profit of RON 510 mil giving a ROE of 14.9%.
