Based on a comparison of 18 banks in Russia in 2017, Sberbank had the most employees, followed by VTB Bank and Russian Agricultural Bank.

Sberbank employed 310,277 persons in 2017, down 4.55% when compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank's workforce hit an all time high of 330,677 persons in 2015 and an all time low of 197,076 in 2001.

Average cost reached RUB 102,946 per month per month per employee, 3.02% more than a year ago. This figure was RUB 39,267 per month some 10 years ago.

Comparing Sberbank with its closest peers, VTB Bank had 96,957 employees with average cost of RUB 133,392 per month per person, Russian Agricultural Bank operated with 27,000 people (and RUB 82,849 per month per employee) and Alfa Bank had 25,340 employees in 2017 with cost RUB 25,340 per month per head.
