Based on a comparison of 19 banks in Russia in 2017, Sberbank was the largest bank by assets, followed by VTB Bank and Gazprombank.

Sberbank assets reached RUB 27,112,200 mil, up 6.87% when compared to the last year. Historically, the bank’s assets reached an all time high of RUB 27,334,700 mil in 2015 and an all time low of RUB 522,112 mil in 1995.

Comparing Sberbank with its closest peers, VTB Bank assets amounted to RUB 13,009,300 mil, Gazprombank operated with RUB 5,534,050 mil assets and Russian Agricultural Bank had total assets of RUB 2,889,020 mil.

Total assets of the Russian banking sector amounted to RUB 77,844 bil in 2017, up 5.29% when compared to the last year. As a result, the top ranked company - Sberbank accounted for 34.8% of the sector’s assets in 2017. The top 3 companies held a 58.7% share while the five largest firms some 65.7% in 2017.
