Based on a comparison of 10 banks in Slovenia, Nova Ljubljanska banka produced the highest net profit in 2016, followed by Abanka Group and SKB Banka.

Nova Ljubljanska banka made a net profit of EUR 110 mil, up 19.7% compared to the previous year. Historically, the bank’s net profit reached an all time high of EUR 202 mil in 2010 and an all time low of EUR -1,442 mil in 2013. The average profit in the last five years amounted to EUR -290 mil.

The bank generated an average return on equity of -25.2% for its shareholders in the last five years with a maximum of 7.54% and a minimum of -119%.

Comparing Nova Ljubljanska banka with its closest peers, Abanka Group generated a net profit of EUR 77.5 mil with a ROE of 13.3% in 2016, SKB Banka netted EUR 63.7 mil (ROE of 16.9%) and NKBM Group announced a net profit of EUR 30.2 mil giving a ROE of 4.62%.

The net profit of the Slovenia’s banking sector amounted to EUR 332 mil in 2016, up 189% compared to the previous year. Heading up the rankings, Nova Ljubljanska banka accounted for 33.1% of the sector’s net profit in 2016. The top 3 companies held a 75.7% share while the five largest firms some 90.8% in 2016.
