Based on a comparison of 11 countries in 2014, Canada ranked the highest in canary seed production with 124,900 tonnes followed by Thailand and Argentina. On the other end of the scale was Spain with 31.0 tonnes, Mexico with 58.0 tonnes and Morocco with 77.0 tonnes.
Total canary seed production reached 194,211 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 20 % less than in the previous year and -94.6 % less than 10 years ago.
Historically, total canary seed production reached an all time high of 377,926 tonnes in 2004 and an all time low of 47,408 tonnes in 1966. The average annual growth amounted to 2.21 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Canada, accounted for 64.3 % of canary seed production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 98.2 % share while the ten largest countries some 105 % in 2014.
