Based on a comparison of 29 countries in 2014, India ranked the highest in castor oil seed production with 1,733,000 tonnes followed by Mozambique and China. On the other end of the scale was Mexico with 4.50 tonnes, Philippines with 44.0 tonnes and Togo with 76.0 tonnes.
Total castor oil seed production reached 2,496,916 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 25.3 % more than in the previous year and 48.1 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total castor oil seed production reached an all time high of 2,734,518 tonnes in 2011 and an all time low of 580,010 tonnes in 1961. The average annual growth amounted to 2.79 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, India, accounted for 69.4 % of castor oil seed production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 73.8 % share while the ten largest countries some 77.2 % in 2014.
