Based on a comparison of 50 countries in 2014, Turkey ranked the highest in fig production with 300,282 tonnes followed by Egypt and Algeria. On the other end of the scale was Slovenia with 14.0 tonnes, Ecuador with 37.0 tonnes and Qatar with 40.0 tonnes.
Total fig production reached 1,090,802 tonnes in 2014 in the World according to Faostat. This is 2.44 % less than in the previous year and 6.00 % more than 10 years ago.
Historically, total fig production reached an all time high of 1,597,659 tonnes in 1964 and an all time low of 860,717 tonnes in 1978. The average annual growth amounted to -0.687 % since 1961.
The top ranked country, Turkey, accounted for 27.5 % of fig production in the world. The top 3 countries hold a 55.5 % share while the ten largest countries some 87.4 % in 2014.
