Based on a comparison of 24 countries in 2018, Nepal ranked the highest in mustard seed production with 182,917 tonnes followed by Canada and Russia. On the other end of the scale was Mexico with 3.00 tonnes, Iran with 4.00 tonnes and Kyrgyzstan with 15.0 tonnes.

Total mustard seed production reached 710,349 tonnes in 2018 in the World according to Faostat. This is 20.7 % more than in the previous year and 23.4 % more than 10 years ago.

Historically, total mustard seed production reached an all time high of 796,707 tonnes in 2004 and an all time low of 170,905 tonnes in 1975. The average annual growth amounted to 1.87 % since 1961.
