Based on a comparison of 170 countries in 2017, Luxembourg ranked the highest in exports as a share of GDP with 2.23% followed by Hong Kong and Singapore. On the other end of the scale was Yemen with 0.036%, Afghanistan with 0.059% and Burundi with 0.064%.

Average exports as a share of GDP reached 0.294% in 2017 in the World according to the National Statistical Office. This is 3.09 % more than in the previous year and -2.37 % less than 10 years ago.

Historically, average exports as a share of GDP reached an all time high of 0.307% in 2008 and an all time low of 0.116% in 1962. The average annual growth amounted to 1.60 % since 1960.
