Net foreign assets reached -179 EUR bil in 2017 in Italy, according to the National Central Bank. This is 44.2 % more than in the previous year.
Historically, net foreign assets in Italy reached an all time high of 89.8 EUR bil in 2009 and an all time low of -179 EUR bil in 2017. When compared to Italy's main peers, net foreign assets in Austria amounted to 106 EUR bil, 407 EUR bil in France and 10.3 EUR bil in Slovenia in 2017.
Italy has been ranked 141st within the group of 145 countries we follow in terms of net foreign assets, 18 places behind the position seen 10 years ago.
